John C. Smith's practice focuses on bankruptcy, creditor rights, federal receiverships, and business and tax law.

Mr. Smith's experience includes:

  • Representing creditors, debtors-in-possess and bankruptcy trustees in litigating all manner of bankruptcy issues, including lien priority and avoidance disputes, preferential transfers, fraudulent conveyances, claims, dischargeability complaints, and other adversary and contested matters
  • Representing federally court-appointed receivers in plan confirmation and implementation, asset recovery and disgorgement actions, and claim administration and distribution
  • Experience in estate planning and administration

Personal Background:

Mr. Smith earned his law degree magna cum laude from Boston Collegewhere he served as an Articles Editor on the B.C. Environmental Affairs Law Journal. Following graduation, Mr. Smith moved to Richmond, Virginia to serve as law clerk to the Honorable Douglas O. Tice, Jr., Chief Judge Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District Division of Virginia.

He graduated summa cum laude from the State University of New York at Fredonia with a degree in Accounting. He then moved to Concord, New Hampshire where he practiced as a Certified Public Accountant for over seven years.
